Tabloidization of the news media in Turkey

In Turkey lots of channels and newspaper use tabloidization and personalization for their benefit. Instead of giving unbiased information to the audience or reader, they add their opinions, comments. People can not recognize the truth. In the content of news, there are mostly two types of people: the rich, with their fabulous lives and the poor with their tragedies. I think this is because of the media group owners. They control their channels, newspapers, journalists to gain more profit from the events. Biased information shows the truth, but tabloidization makes more money. Some of the commercial televisions are Show TV, ATV, Channel D and Star, which I just watch the reality shows, lives of celebrities, gossips and tragic events, but not the social cause and effects of them. In contast TRT and CNN-Turk gives correct information and discussion programs. I think tabloidization is necessary for gainig different critical opinions, but also without showing the truth democracy can not be developed.

2 points. Does the media owner have an influence on the content of news in Turkey ?

I believe that owners of the media outlets have a huge and direct influence on the content of the news. In Turkey, lots of companies have their own television channels and also newspapers, magazines, such as Doğan Media Group and Uzan Group. As an example, Cem Uzan, who participate in politics, used his media group for his commercial. So that caused the increase of his voters. On the other hand, Aydın Doğan fired Emin Çölaşan, who is a famous enlightened journalist, just because he gave unbiased information about politics. This could end the authority of Aydın Doğan, if he would not fire him. Influence on the content of media owner is dependend on their political views and their fear for lack authority.

2 points. An autobiographical entry on my relationship with media

I am addicted to the media since I was a child. I grown up with this developing technology. I use to watch cartoons in my childhood, read newspapers and magazines in my teenager, now I used to watch discussion programs and historical channels, which are more attractive for me. Every part of the media is experienced in my whole life.
I want to give a real example for development of technology and its relationship with human lives. When my grandmother watches the television, she thinks that the actors are living their own lives. According to my grandmother, if they are killed in one serial, they really have to die in the real life. So when she sees him or her in another serial, she gets shocked. This is an extreme example as in the enormous radio. Technology improves faster than the old generation.

Television: Plug in Drug

I think this article is not boring, because it contains facts and quotations about the reality. There is no extreme story in the article, so I like it. According to the writer, television, one of the most important media tool, is an addiction like drugs, which decreases the quality of life, destroys social life and damages communication in the family. I agree with the writer, the role and the situation of television is not pleasant. The text indicates the negative effects of TV. The consumers, the real audience, are parents and mostly kids, and they could not realize the harm of it. In contrast to the past, today there are more than one television in houses, so as mother watches TV serials in the kitchen, father watches politics in the living room and children watch reality shows in their own bedrooms. How do they communicate with each other in different rooms? TV does not only destroy communication, it also destroys family rituals at the same time. In the past family members sit together for dinner, but today in lots of family they eat their dinner in front of TV. Also if they have only one television in the house, because of the content of programs, I think there is nothing to discuss about with other. The contents of them are simple, cliche and boring.

Enormous Radio

The writer wants to indicate that media instruments could become a concern for relationships and could change the lives of people. Jim and Irene Westcott had a regular life with their children and their friends. There is no information about their communication, but after Jim bring a new radio, which transmitters sounds of other apartments, Irene become addicted to listening it. She is effected psychologically, she become depressive, miserable and irresponsible woman. Because of her curiosity and interest in other peoples lives, she creates a distorted relationship with her husband. She tells her husband about others lives and suspects about her relationship. All these are occured the arguments, as well as the reality for Irene. As she wants to prove her perfect family structure, she forgets the real problems with focusing on others lives. She does not try to help others problems, she has not got a solution. With an extreme example the writer wants to pay attention, that addiction to media could harm relationships and family structures, and also it could create selfish, egoistic and depressive human models.

Reality TV: a dearth of talent and the death of morality

Reality Tv is a text about behaviours and acts of people in front of the screen. The aim of the text is to criticize the shows. According to the writer competing in the reality shows, doing meaningless behaviours, talking about scandals, gossiping and fighting with each other are against morals and ethics. People watch reality TV, because shows reminds their own lives and themselves. Relity Tv is seen as a mirror or a window on the world. It is a reflection of the society and the daily lives of people. Narcissism is the most important thing for shows, because generally people want to get the behaviours on TV as an example for their lives. In lots of points I agree with the writer, but I think the content of reaity tv should be changed. All the channels have the same content and they have too much exhibition. Realiy Tv should be a useful example for people rather than a mirror. Shows should not be the most common and normal way of becoming famous.
